The 30th Annual Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance returns July 21-24, 2022 to the Trumansburg Fairgrounds in Trumansburg, NY, and as in all previous years, the festival’s community building project returns as well. Each year of the festival, the festival building team creates a community build to give back to the community. Over the years the festival has created, and donated, the Little Village play structures in front of the Trumansburg Laundromat, the Kurt’s Pavilion in Triangle Park in Ithaca, the kitchen building at the Children’s Garden in Ithaca, and many more.
This year as the festival welcomes the return of internationally-renowned Ukrainian folk quartet DakhaBrakha in the midst of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the GrassRoots Festival community has built the Peace Ship: a children’s play place built out of a repurposed grain bin, in the week prior to the festival. Throughout the festival weekend donations will be welcomed to support Ukrainian organizations dedicated to assisting Ukrainians in their recovery. Thanks to assistance from key sponsors Maguire Family of Dealerships and Travis Hyde Properties, all donations raised throughout the festival weekend will be donated to charitable organizations focused on direct Ukrainian relief.
